New Local Woodsy Brews

A trio of local brews all made with the help of some trees. Steel & Oak does it with a Bamburg style German smoked lager. That means a meaty and smoky character due to the use of beechwood smoked malt. The spruce ale from Tofino Brewing is quickly becoming a BC classic that isn’t around often enough. It shows off the use of Sitka Spruce needles nicely with evergreen and piney notes. Persephone and Townsite collaborated on a Belgian dark ale with a woodsy twist. The use of cedar and juniper berries adds a resinous and herbal dimension that blends with the malty dried plum and liquorice notes. One to savour on a chilly night sleeping under the stars.
